Eligibility Requirements

This offer is exclusively reserved for the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces (for the Military Epic Pass and the Liberty Pass), as well as service members from Australia and Canada (for the Military Epic Pass), and their qualifying dependents.

In the U.S., this includes anyone currently serving in, or veterans of, the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, Army National Guard, U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves, U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve.

The Military Epic Pass offering also includes service members from Australia and Canada – details on military eligibility and verification process for the Canadian Armed Forces can be viewed here and for the Australian Defence can be viewed here

To ensure eligibility, we require a military status verification process.

Active Duty, Reserve and Guard Forces Qualifications

  • Active Duty (full-time): A person who is currently serving on active duty is in the military full-time (serving on Title 10 orders for 30 days or more).
  • Reserve & Guard Forces: A person in the Reserve or National Guard is not full-time active duty military personnel, although he or she can be deployed at any time should the need arise. Members of the Reserve & Guard are eligible for the Military Epic Pass (Active/Retired/Dependent) if they are currently serving in the Reserves or National Guard (serving on Title 32 orders). (This offer does not apply to members of the IRR – Individual Ready Reserve.)

Retired and Veteran Qualifications

  • Retired: A military retiree is any former member of the uniformed services who is entitled, under statute, to retired, retirement, or retainer pay. Examples include, but are not necessarily limited to, spending 20 or more years in the military, or permanent retirement by reasons of physical disability.
  • Veteran: A person who served in the active military and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable

Dependent Qualifications

  • Active/Retired/Reserve/Guard Forces Dependent: Registered Dependents of Active/Retired Military members, including spouse and child dependents. Parents of military members are not included, as well as children who are no longer dependent. Definitions for age/eligibility requirements are defined by the military and Department of Defense. For active/retired dependents, all should have or qualify for DD Form 1173. Definitions for age/eligibility requirements are defined by the military and Department of Defense*.
  • Veteran Dependents: Veteran Military member's spouse and any child dependents. Parents of military members are not included, nor are children who are no longer dependent. Definitions for age/eligibility requirements are defined by the military and Department of Defense*.

Vail Resorts does not define this. We are relying on military definitions and eligibility as defined by the U.S. Department of Defense*, who defines dependent children as:

  • A child of the sponsor (military member) who is younger than 21 years of age. If 21 or older, the child may remain eligible if he/she is:
    • 21 or 22 years old and enrolled in a full-time course of higher learning
    • 21 or older but incapable of self-support because of a mental or physical incapacity that existed before the 21st birthday
    • 21 or 22 years old and was enrolled full-time in an accredited institution of higher learning, but became incapable of self-support because of a mental or physical condition while a full-time student
  • Children who are 18+ will still be required to purchase an adult dependent pass. Child pricing is available for Military Epic Pass – Veteran, and Liberty Pass for Child dependents under the age of 18.

Yes, we want to honor all families who have members who are serving or who have served. With proper dependent verification, you and your family can still purchase the appropriate Military Epic Pass (for U.S. Armed Forces and service members of Australia or Canada and their dependents) or Liberty Pass (for U.S. Armed Forces and dependents only).

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Australian Defence Force are currently eligible for the Military Epic Pass.

Service members and their dependents from Australia and Canada are eligible for the Military Epic Pass offering. They are not included in the Liberty Pass offering. Verification Process

U.S. Armed Forces Verification process will be initiated within the checkout flow of the military pass purchase. Depending on your status with the military, this may happen automatically prior to purchase, or there may be some additional documentation needed in order to verify your status to qualify for the military pass you are opting to purchase. In certain circumstances, you may need to contact SheerID at customerservice@sheerid.com to finalize verification process.

For those not instantly verified, additional documentation must be provided.  The approved forms of military identification are:

  • DD214
  • Orders
  • VA ID
  • Official letter
  • Dependent ID (DD Form 1173 or other proof of dependency)
  • Any official government document that displays first/last name and military status or affiliation
  • Australian Military Verification to be announced (Note: Not eligible for Liberty Pass Program)
  • Canadian Military Verification to be announced (Note: Not eligible for Liberty Pass Program)
All military organizations give its members some kind of official document that we'll accept, but in the event you are unable to provide us with an acceptable proof of affiliation, we will not be able to verify you and cannot offer you access to the Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass. Please contact your season pass expert at (970)754-0088 to upgrade to one of our other season pass options.

After you purchase your pass, you can complete the verification process by creating an account or logging in to your existing account. 

 If at anytime your link to upload documents does not work, you can verify your military affiliation after your purchase within through epicpass.com/verify.  You will need your Order Confirmation number & Pass number.

  • Retired Adult Dependents
  • Retired Child Dependents (as long as they qualify for a Child product)

Unlimited, unrestricted access to all 20 of our Owned & Operated Resorts*, including: Vail, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb, Breckenridge, Park City, Keystone, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, Stowe, Crested Butte, Okemo, Mount Sunapee, Stevens Pass, Wilmot, Afton Alps, and Mt. Brighton for the 2019-20 season, as well as Perisher, Falls Creek, and Hotham in Australia for the 2020 ski season* (*Falls Creek and Hotham are pending transaction close and certain approvals, estimated prior to Australian Snow Season in June 2019).

The Military Epic Pass – Active/Retired/Dependent DOES NOT currently offer access to any partner resorts, including Telluride, Sun Valley, Snowbasin, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (Fernie, Kicking Horse, Kimberley, Nakiska, Mont Sainte Anne, and Stoneham), Rusutsu, Hakuba Valley-Japan, or European Partners.

No, not at this time.  Unlimited, unrestricted access is available on all Vail Resorts owned and operated resorts only.

If you decide you want to ski at Telluride, Sun Valley, Snowbasin or at our international partner resorts, you may upgrade your pass to the full access Epic Pass at any time prior to the start of the ski season. Please call your season pass expert at (970)754-0088.

Unlimited, unrestricted access to Keystone Resort. Additionally, pass holders receive 50% off window rate tickets at other Vail Resorts owned and operated resorts including: Vail, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb, Stowe, Breckenridge, Park City, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Crested Butte, Okemo, Mount Sunapee, Stevens Pass, Wilmot, Afton Alps, and Mt. Brighton, as well as Perisher, Falls Creek, and Hotham in 2020 Ski Season* (*Falls Creek and Hotham are pending transaction close and certain approvals, estimated prior to Australian Snow Season in June 2019). You must go to the lift ticket window to receive this discount on Liberty Pass products.

Lift Ticket discounts do not apply for any season pass partner resorts.
No. For eligible members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their immediate families, the Liberty Pass gives you unlimited, unrestricted access to Keystone Resort.

As a valued Military Epic Pass holder or Liberty Pass holder, both of these passes will come with 6 discounted, single day lift tickets loaded onto your Pass for friends and family. Ski-With-A-Friend Tickets vary in price based on the date you plan to visit and can be purchased at all valid resort ticket windows. The Season Pass holder must be present at the time of purchase.
No, Buddy Tickets will not be offered on Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass. All Military Pass offerings will have 6 Ski-With-A-Friend Tickets.

Yes, you can go straight to the lift at any valid resorts on the Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass once you have verified your military status, and received your active 2019/20 Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass. If a Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass is purchased in the spring in U.S and Canada, you will receive 2019 summer lift access at all Vail Resorts owned and operated resorts. Summer lift access is for sightseeing only and does not include bike haul.

The balance of your pass will be charged in Mid-September.

No. Season Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Pass insurance should be purchased at the point of sale. The pass insurance rates on the Military Epic Passes and Liberty Passes is $12-27 per adult pass, and $7-12 per child pass. Pass refunds are available only when a guest purchased pass insurance and has a valid claim under the insurance policy. Any refund is based on the cost of the pass minus a daily rate for every day used up to the face value of the season pass.

More Information

Season Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable. Pass insurance should be purchased at the point of sale. The pass insurance rates on the Military Epic Passes and Liberty Passes is $12-27 per adult pass, and $7-12 per child pass. Pass refunds are available only when a guest purchased pass insurance and has a valid claim under the insurance policy.  Coverage is included if the "Insured is called to active military service or military leave is revoked or reassigned."

Any refund is based on the cost of the pass minus a daily rate for every day used up to the face value of the season pass.

If you are Auto Renewed into another pass product, but qualify for one of the new Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass products, you are able to exchange into the Military Epic Pass or Liberty Pass. Please call a season pass expert at (970)754-0088.
No. Military Pass offerings (Military Epic Pass and Liberty Pass) are not eligible for the Auto Renew Program. If you were previously enrolled in Auto Renew for your pass purchases, you will no longer be automatically renewed next year.
No, the Vail Resorts Turn In Your Ticket program is not valid on the military pass offerings for the 19/20 season.
Yes, kids 4 and under will continue to receive free lift access when accompanied by an adult.

The 4 and under pass goes on sale during Labor Day Weekend prior to the ski season. To be eligible for this pass for the season, the child must be 4 years old at time of purchase. If the child turns 5 after Labor Day or throughout the ski season, they are still eligible for this pass.

To receive this ticket/pass, you must redeem at any Vail Resorts owned-and-operated ticket window, and the child must be accompanied by an adult on-mountain at all times.
No, we will not be offering a Senior Military Pass, as the Military Epic Pass and Liberty Pass are the best deals for unlimited, unrestricted access to all of our resorts for all qualifying guests.
